I like the slip sinker idea ,John!

I always split shotted a crawler a foot up from the hook for Smallies but the floating Jighead I think is better as it stays in the zone longer plus a chartreuse color or other bright color gets their eye.Good luck John .and please consider this technique for Perch ! It worked well on Gills and Perch the past two days for me in two different lakes.

Thanks John, I will look for the Mister Twister jig head. I have used floating jig heads for Small Mouth bass, but they are #4 hooks, too big for Bluegill. I wold run my line through a slip sinker, tie on a swivel and about a 12 inch leader, and then  the floating jig head tipped with a piece of nightcrawler, worked pretty good.

Well then welcome  John ! Prepare your self for fun learning more about Bluegill fishing and much more with a great group of folks! The smallest I 've used are #6 hooks I bought from Mister Twister through their catalog ,but I would like to find #8 's myself. The #6 caught two nice Perch at 11 and 11.5" and an 8" Hen Gill today.

I am a new member of  Big Bluegill, wanting to learn to catch more fish. I am wondering where you  can get floating jig heads in a size suitable for bluegill?  Thanks for any info you would share. John M. Grimes

That Spinner / spoon rig sank slow enough to interest  6 species regardless of level they were hitting at 4-12' on bottom.

You bet and thanks for egging me onto using the floating rig again. However most fish of the 30 I caught were on a homemade spinner Rig/Gold Nungesser spoon tipped with crawler piece . Top Gill was 8.5" on the Floating Jighead . Fat 14" Bass most of the other fish  and 4 Crappie took to the Spoon/Spinner Rig.
