Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Since the weather hasn't allowed for fishing lately. I decided to make some floats out of some materials I collected this fall. I'm kind of excited to use them to see how they work.

The only problem I have with them is that they will snap pretty easily when hung up in a tree but if you can't reach it you are probably gonna lose it anyway. I have left a lot of my floats in trees and wondered what other people thought of them when they fished by. You don't feel so bad about leaving a homemade one out there not like big chunk of styrofoam or plastic. If you need any help just ask but it looks like you are off to great start.

Thanks Keith and Slip. Can't wait to put them in action. This is my first try at making any kind of fishing equipment, so we'll see where it goes. Maybe one day I could see myself making my own baits, Carl, but I don't think I have the time right now. Something to think about, though.

Are you a member of the float makers group? If not we would we would love to have you. I'm adding a pic of a couple of mine, the one on the right had broken stems so I used a bamboo chopstick. You will trying to make a float out of everything now. Say no to styrofoam!

They will work great Adam. I've been making similar ones a few years. The irregular shape makes a slight side to side motion when retrieved. I think it helps when using a jig. They look great too.

Thanks fellas. This is my first time trying my hand at making floats. I saw Keith had made some from these goldenrod galls so when I saw some in the fall I grabbed some to give it a try when I got some free time in the winter. I did cut a few open to use as bait this fall, worked pretty well.

Jim;  I have used those worms out of those weeds; many times;; great little bait !!   Keith Ritter makes some terrific flaots;; real Americana type;;from corn cobs; shish-ka-bob skewers;; goose quills;; you name it; he makes it !  a great craftsman !  not to mention;; he also makes knives;; out of the -- extrodinary things;; like a blade from a skill saw !!  as for the  other web sites; that promote fishing;; awww;; they;r just jealous of our site ;; LOL
