Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

These are my goto Bluegill flies. The middle left is a soft hackle and I use various colors, orange, yellow, green and sometimes natural colors of browns and greens. The popper is a new design for me. I have always used cork in stead of craft foam.

Ray, I think most of us fly tyers have boxes full of fly patterns but we always use our top five favorites.  I guess it's because we're always looking for the  "magic fly"  that on fish can refuse.  I fish a hopper and a fly like the one in the upper left of the picture, tied in black, more than anything else and have had super good results. But that want keep me from sticking something new in the box.  Part of the addiction I guess. Most of my early poppers were cork also but foam is my material of choice now.  It seems to be a lot more versatile.

Thanks....these have worked well for me and could probably catch gills about anywhere with just these. The problem is that my boxes are stuffed with these and many others. The grass is always greener on the other side I guess. hehehe

They sure catch a lot of fish for me in the local small creeks. Just like everywhere....some days I have really work to get a half dozen but some days I catch a hundred in just a few hours. Most days are somewhere inbetween.
