The story of the Coppernose or "Florida Strain Bluegill" is very similar to that of it's freshwater counterpart the largemouth bass Rick. Native to the extreme southeastern United States.....efforts have now brought Coppernose to many other locations where they have been thriving in other relatively warm weather climates such as Texas and California....Found now in public waters north to the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia, they dominate the Albemarle/Pamlico estuary that I fish most often in North Carolina......They do not have the tolerance to the cold like their Northern strain cousins so some efforts to introduce them in colder climates have proved unsuccessful but there are quite a few Pond managers out there seeing great results.

I haven't made a dime doing it Tony and can't get anyone to write a book...LOL....I'm first blessed with several productive waterways to choose from but it still takes immense discipline when you love to fish like I do...Because the thought is you can just let the fish go but I feel like not disturbing fish has yielded amazing results  the next season....Obviously other people can go fish these Public places but I put that out of my mind so I can stick to it...

Water looks very serene there. Jeffrey, I believe that I have heard you mention that you seldom see any other BG anglers when you're on the water? If so, that, combined with your rotation of prime fishing spots would surely relieve some of the angling pressure, resulting in not only bigger fish, but maybe even provide you with fish more willing to bite....I think that's a good plan. I wish I had the fortitude to do that myself! I spend way too much time chasing those big HBG, when I should be giving them a break.

I skipped this location the entire year of 2009 and you don't know how bad that killed me somedays.....See I purposely do not fish particular creeks and even rivers for entire years......These efforts have worked for me in regards to big gills and numbers.....I already have selected two locations that I will not fish this year, one that will keep me up at night I'm sure but this is a behavior I adapted to during my years in the Navy when I would often deploy for almost an entire season and the fishing seemed better because of that.....No worries Tooty....the Stables is not on the rest list this year....just selected harvest........many big fish up to 11.25 inches released there the last couple years..........I take two friends fishing that never want to go anywhere else, mainly because of the versatility of fishing styles that work and the big toads keep em' coming!
