Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Added some lead foil for weight and glass bead head.
My aim is to have it sink horizontally.

That's neat Bill! Perfect control on sink rates. Love those 11/0 beads.

I tried a San Juan worm last season to no avail. Maybe this will be the year.

what if you threaded the body material through the bead first and left it in the middle and tied the body material to the hook at the ends....?

I've seen something like this with some versions of the San Juan worm pattern where the chenille piece is pulled through a glass bead that sits in the middle of the hook shank...the bead kinda makes it look like the collar of a worm...I'll try to find a couple that I have tied...I like what you have here...for sure.

Well Carl, we're guys who like to live on budgeted creativity. Glass beads, at Walmart come in variety. I got yellow, gold, silver, white, olive/green, and red-orange. These silli legs get abused like there's no tomorrow. Three 6 extensions get yanked right off the fly. Not sure by which species. Best hooks so far, the Matzuo #8, with a 1/64oz jig head painted shimmering gold. Same sink rate as the 6/0 glass bead. Will be experimenting with them on trout when the water is calm enough, and as they are stocked locally during the cold season.

I've created many of your barricaded worms for my friends on the fly rods, and they caught plenty of redears and coppernoses.

leo-- was the very first person- to witness the catching ability of these last summer!!  i kept sending him videos while i was fishing-- and he was working!!  not that i would try to gig leo or any thing!!  LOL!!  and - leo was the very first bbg member to receive a few of these to try out in his area!!   but like i told leo before--im experimenting with these !!   and yep- this summer  i tipped them with a piece of night crawler!!  first day i used them - i think i got around 100 to 200 fish of all types-- blue gills- catfish- bass- drum- and stripe and on just ONE OF THESE!! these are tuff bugs!!  and i used the same bug-- the next time i went fishing! and caught a bunch of fish again!!

Oh man, I missed this. Nice! 6/0 glass bead is a great use in making it sink around 1" per second, no matter how much time has gone by in soaking the fly. Add a full red wiggly, it goes to 3" per second. Add a 1/4 crawler, that sucker goes 4" per second. Tested in the water on Saturday. Rather than the aluminum foil (nice touch), try to use krystal flash. Crazy attraction. None of them bite because of the harsh waves/rough water making the fly went wild, and the cold temp with full moon earlier didn't help either. Hard day to fish for all fishes. However, the fly did attract a massive school that went from 32ft to 24ft, right where the fly was. They congregated like the general population watching a freak show.

I can only hope, Dave. The originator here at BBG, Mr. Carl Hendrix, tips them with worm.

How they will work as an unadulterated fly is up for grabs at the 'mo. The beauty is they are super easy, super cheap and infinitely flexible. I'll be tinkering with the weighting to get it to behave as I wish. But we gotta thank Carl for it - he's the genius.
Im only standing on his shoulders, you know?

Wow...That is kind of evil looking.  Looks like something that would be crawling around under rocks & fallen wood.  Bet it gets eaten!
