Jeff ,18"  is fantastic ,that's gotta go 3 lbs or more .My biggest I hope to exceed for now is 16,1/2" 2,1/2 lbs,

Live bait is always best.  However, I did read correctly a few posts earlier in this thread, that you aren't allowed to use live minnows in Lake Perris?  If so, the Gulp! Minnow is probably the next best thing.

I caught my largest crappie, a Black of almost 18 inches, while casting and drifting in a float tube and using one of Ledhed's little jigs.. a 1/32 oz. grey marabou chub with red eyes.  I can catch them on small jigs,  but a small live shad or shiner seems to get the crappie's attention so much better and quicker.

Jeff, try a smaller hair jig tipped with Gulp! Minnow

Thanks Adam hope I can continue to do so . Jeff ,you're gonna have to be real clever if you cant use minnows .The few 2 lb+ Crappie I 've caught through the years have all come on Herring or Shiners for bait . I have caught them up to 13-14 before on Jigs though . What do you think the Slabs will go for in Perris? Got any rubber baits with a slim profile like the Keitech Easy Shiner ?Berkeley has some baits with a slim profile , ask Slip Sinker he uses them . 3-4 " might be a good size to throw at them if you locate the big ones .Good Luck I hope you get some ! I have found Crappie at two lakes consistently in the past two months .Rip Rap by a Dam at one lake  and a Bluff with a rising bank at another  .

Nice fish John!  I so wish we could use live minnows at my nearby Lake Perris.  There are absolute giant crappie in there!
