Do you love big bluegill?
One end, place the shot in the cutter with some tension, then pinch it tight, shot will be sliced in half - line in tact. Keep a little tension on the line and it works like magic - er, a Ninja... The other end offers pliers to clamp and finish your fine shot on the line, moisten and use it to reposition the shot.

The Dinsmore I tried was tin.
It does stink to have to import everything and I am putting an end to us needing to search all about, pay killer import shipping etc. I too am tired of it.
Our tackle giants make EVERYTHING as cheaply as they can supply it and mass produce it. I am positive their wire hook bending machines can output thousands of hooks ever few minutes. This makes them very fast production hooks - but it doesn't mean they will catch you a lot of fish - it means they will profit well from the product. Unfortunately - all of fishing has gone this way. Bass is the easiest fish to catch on the planet- giant mouth, uber-aggressive next to many other species and it will swim 20' to attack a bait top, middle or bottom of the water column. The industry puts all of its marbles in that big mouth.
Now that we are a few years down the road, there are many of us who fish differently - not a few. It is time.
You don't have to buy Anchor overseas - I found some on eBay and I will get a few more sources going on this stuff. eBay Seller Selling Split Shot - fly tying shops sell it and there are a couple of big box stores that sell it - but I prefer the smaller stores... I will look to import the stuff and get proper shot so that it can be shipped out with other supplies.
Dude, I can't comment. I'll give the anchor a shot ( no pun intended) next time I order from the UK but that does beg the question, why do I need to go overseas for quality fixed line products ie small snelled hooks, floats, baits, and lines.
Dinsmores are amongst the worst I have ever used if these are the tin shot. They mark the line so once on, they won't be adjusted without tearing up thin line. The Anchor brand I mentioned does have a UK-legal split shot so maybe this is the answer when the rule police try to address recreational law to try and fix an industrial - manufacturing problem (or illegal dumping, run-off) which would cause Trillion times more than any split shot on my line.
Thanks for the info. I didn't know they have a tool like this. Always have been using a pliers of some kind.
Besides, Dinsmores makes a pretty good shot for Micro Fishing on one lb test
Suggest you start saving, I only see this increasing over the next 5 years
WHERE HAVE LEAD SINKERS BEEN BANNED?
There are two places to look for good gear - I send people to Gapen.com - this family is an American treasure and a little-known 3rd generation fly family - patterns from England are centuries old.
The place for bluegill gear is LiveBaitFishingTackle.com - Link will take you to the cool tool section. You should be able to outfit your whole box with tools under $10. LiveBaitFishingTackle.com
When you slice your first split shot off the line using this you should have someone record your face. You won't believe how good it will feel not to struggle with it. It's under $5 and built for our tiny shot - anything under a BB will be dominated by you - larger shot it will cut.
Note also - I always advise using three types of shot only: Super Doux #1! Anchor #2, Thill #3 - all others are posers. Tin shot - NEVER. you will probably wreck the tool on this garbage.
The day they ever ban lead shot sales is the day I purchase about $600 of the above and my own smelting gear. It's that essential... Please share your successes with these tools the site is essentially dedicated to panfish anglers and those who fish live bait.
Ok I work with fine shot and slotting is a bit tricky . Where and how much.
It took me years to get this tool and bring it to anglers. This thing is a life-saver when needing to take split shot off rigs and for rigging up. I use this to put shot on when I am shotting up floats - add shot, pinch it down with the pliers, float it in a tall container of water and get it perfect (leave some room for bait.). On the water, if you ever have a float that is sinking or over-shot when your bait is on, you can simply grab this, tighten the line, place the shot in the cutting end and then slice it off without damaging your line!! Try the float again and it might be just the adjustment you needed. You won't know how you fished without this thing - it is like having Q-Branch make you fishing equipment and your are James Bond. Also in this gallery are pictures of its ancestors - old but awesome split shot pliers. Retire the wrench to the boat tool box or your garage - this is living.
