' a world of their own ", good statement! Through the ice I tip for crappies with success ,a minnow (shiner) head on a thin spoon is my 'secret weapon' for crappies in  my lake come ice fishing .I take perch and Gills on perch eye tipped baits then too. I agree with your opinions and think of these ideas more like past success experience more than opinions . I'm in NJ ,you're in Ohio , your fish and conditions aren't mine but I'll try to file away everyone's thoughts here and see how they apply to my waters .Nothing beats time on the water ,archiving and dating the conditions and remembering when faced with a similar situation .I think we all know that here at bbg.

Crappies are in a world of there own. In all my years fish crappies I have never used live bait or even tipped my baits. You can catch them on jigs cranks and spinners you just have to know were they reside (structure).I'm not saying you'll never have to tip but I think as the lake freezes over a tipped bait will out produce an untipped bait. John these are my opinions and I'm sure there are people who may or may not agree with me.

I agree with that , but Crappie often this late in the year will still not require tipping like a perch or Gill in my experience and at times I've caught lots of Crappie near a good piece of structure up to around Thanksgiving with plain bucktails or squirrel tail jigs .Only caught one today though. Crappie seem to require tipping later and colder in the year than the Perch and Gills . Gills I'm finding usually need tipping .

I would say that food for thought and typical John. The colder water a chunk of meat usually is the deciding of weather you catch a fish or not. As the water warms you can shed the meat as a general rule..

This was the best along with the 10" White Perch . I'm not keeping any to eat but that'll change. Dick, I didn't catch Gills on your jigs till I tipped with Baby Crawlers .

Nice perch will be better with a little flour and oil. I'm glad the Jesse jigs are working for you.
