Interesting NOAA River Graph….Telling the Story on Sunday

I fished behind a cold front on Sunday and the strong southwest winds ahead of it gave us a flood tide on the Pasquotank River indicated where the blue gets close to the yellow fill….my success Sunday morning was in parallel with a falling wind tide indicated by the down slope circled in red…..it’s always better on the Albemarle and associated rivers on a falling wind tide……This graph is available for thousands of locations across the country at noaa.gov/ Rivers and Lakes after entering your zip code in the full forecast location, its a tool I look at everyday to decide on a location…..

I just put it out there John so folks know what I’m thinking about when I’m planning a trip……it’s a big deal around these parts…

Hey Jack glad you saw this…I know for sure that you recognize these changes………up here it’s all wind tide with the exception of the Roanoke river which has a large river basin…….the rest of these rivers only move with wind….the biggest factor is this….such a large volume of water that has go out and move in through the very small Oregon Inlet, we just never get far enough during a moon tide cycle up here to see it while you’re fishing….but definitely a falling wind tide is a great sight to a river angler……thanks!

Solid info Jeff.

Tidal rivers fish so much more differently than lakes and reservoirs. Falling tide is generally the best window for tidal rivers. I've fished a majority of them from your neck of the woods right on down tp the Waccamaw River in Brunswick County.

One noticeable difference though is how much current the rivers in the SE part of NC have versus the ones up your way.
