Wow, didn't realize so many people were there. Bushy Park has always been popular with the skiers too.  I rarely fished on the weekend I'd get seasick from all the boats going by! I used to use the landing at Cypress Gardens most of the time. I liked fishing around Pimlico and the creeks up near Mepkin Abbey and all the way up past Berkely country club.  I hope the fishing pressure doesn't end things there too!

Thanks Dick.....I agree Mark but it is still the busiest place I have ever fished for bluegill.....period.....There are upwards of 30 to 40 trailers at Bushy Park during the week and forget about it on the weekends! It was busy back in 1982 but not like this.....I hope those big fish don't become a thing of the past....

Nice report Jeff those are still some great fish.  There sure are some big ones in that area, I would love to spend a week there!

I've seen the rolling spawn many years, but I agree that in our ponds the largest Bluegills nest first.... the bedding fish seem to get progressively smaller as the summer goes on.

I also wholeheartedly agree that I have much left to learn.

I have always heard the same thing Lee....I do think it's a little different every season.....I was on a very large and productive bed a few years back on Labor Day weekend....a surprise on that day because it had been weeks since I had caught a bedding fish.......As soon as I think I know it all, some event makes me scratch my head!

The spawning ritual of bream is something thats always interested me. Many people I talk to say they will continue to spawn all summer long around the full moon, some say only in the spring. From what I see in the lakes I fish they seem to spawn in stages almost always the larger fish first then later smaller ones, they'll use the same beds even. Usually the end of July is the last spawn I see but this year we had an extremely warm winter and spring, All the fish Bass and pan spawned early than normal and seem to have quite early also. I posted a pic of some empty beds yesterday, I was really surprised I fully expected to see fish bedding on them but there where none just some cruising bass?

I would agree for North Carolina as well Tony....I had found several locations where the beds were empty at home over the past several weeks....

The bulk of the spawn is past here, although I still see some smaller Gills' on the old beds. And I did notice a few freshly cleaned beds in one of the ponds, so a few are still going.

I agree Federico....my favorite fish to pursue...I'm very fortunate to be in the Southeast where they are numerous......
