I was a little surprised to see large perch in the South, too. I associate them with northern waters and I have caught ONE to date here in South Carolina. I am familiar with the region Kelly is fishing and some huge fish come out of there. Nice to see perch, too.

Good one! I miss yellow perch... used to catch some nice ones when I was a kid in NH/CT/VT/ MN... we moved a lot, but the perch were always good! It was the FIRST fish I learned was not scalable... I figured out how to just flip the fillet and take it off the skin at 7 years old, no-one coached me, and I commenced to SLAY them with a purpose from that point on! Spinner rigs with a half worm trailer, by standing weeds in the spring... I remember my dad picking me up by the lake and helping me haul a 6ft stringer to the trunk... I filleted them all of the skin, but didn't have it perfected: I didn't think to slice out the side strip of tiny bones. But still, one of the TASTIEST fish frys I remember from childhood.

That was about 1978, and the bigger ones were everywhere... I spent summers in '86 and '90 looking, but never found them. Plenty of smallmouth! Just didn't find the perch... It's good news to hear they're so close! Georgia.... wow... I have to put this on my bucket list... Thanks man. Cheers!
