Alright - you guys are killing me. Now I will just have to eat the shipping and get some of these things through the mail.

Beautiful fish Jim and great comments about late season "feel".

Great information and another beautiful fish Jim....Thanks for sharing with the group! I've also used the Gulp series more this year than I ever had and I've been quite surprised by the success........

Up here at Lake Marburg in southern PA, we have been catching crappies on a 1/32 oz round, black jighead with a 1" emerald shiner minnow threaded about 2/3 up the shank of the hook. We are using 2 pound test Triple Fish or SOS mono made by Trout Magnet to cast them and work them in and around dying vegetation. Strikes are soft, often just a slight heaviness in the 46 degree water. You can also suspend them on a slip-float.

This is the first year I have used these Gulp Alive minnows. So far, they have outfished the other guys using real minnows, but that is because they suspend them above the weed tops with fixed bobber presentations and they don't want to lose bait or tackle.  You can get the jig/Gulp combo down into the jungle where the fish are hunkered down during much of the day. A strike feels just like a weed, and every 20 cast or so, it's actually a soft-striking crappie, so I set the hook to anything that remotely seems like a strike, including when I feel slack in the line. As evening approaches and the plankton rise to the surface, small minnows get active and the crappie follow, moving higher in the water column. I also use Led Heds chub head 1/24 oz jighead with good results with these. Thanks, LH!

I get my Gulp minnows for $6 a jar. I haven't gone through one jar yet and I am up to 153 crappie in December. Plus, I don't have to lug a minnow bucket around or get my hands cold to bait up. I imagine when the weeds die out and the bite slows that other options, to include live minnows, will emerge, perhaps being 'the' technique. Most of my fish are from the shore, but some are from a boat.

I believe J.G. has had some success with the "Emerald Shiner" in recent weeks.....

Ive been hoping the local Wally World would stock them, but they never do. And as far as I know, they don't take "special requests" either. I do like the look of them......

I've tried these on my spoon rigs.....they work.....unfortunately they're not too durable.
