Thanks for noticing, guys.
It was not easy getting there. I had to go through the usual range of other flies to find one
the fish were willing to commit to. Nothing in the way of nymphs or other subsurface flies
seem to interest these pond fish. The entire time I was there, there were lots of fish in the
shallows feeding. Pretty sure these were small bass; I was trying to stir their interest. No luck.
Also noticing some scattered surface takes on the edge of the near shore brush line, I went to the foam spider and voila! Success.
I'm thinking some other terrestrial forms would also work, i.e. gnats and ants.
