Drop-shotting and slip-floating the Gulp Waxie... tipping GULP Waxie on the chain n crank
2" Power Minnow
not shn "Spring Cricket"  (my tie) lost the last one on a toothy pred
and
Dick Tabberts Jelly Jig
this is basically all i take with me nowadays either out in the kayak, boat or glove box

Slip

I'm impressed - add a few size 18 hooks, cut your waxies in half and add a micro float.    Now you are covered to 2 inch. I like the idea of the chain and crank.

Here is my tackle box. It covers from 1 inch to about 7-8 inches. Since I use a telescope pole I'm limited to about  1- - 14 feet from shore.

Yeah, I still use a crate in my kayak as well.  But, since I fish on foot quite a bit, I also use a backpack, and treat it like a crate.  Although, I do keep a lot of "necessary" stuff squirreled away in my bag, like leader material, soft plastics, floats, etc.

Don't get me wrong ... i still have my tackle library stored in Plano 3650's and its extensive... even as a kid i loved collecting lures.

i kind of have a system of milk crate storage that started when i was fishing out of a kayak ... i would grab a few 3650's and slide em into the plastic crate. this crate has 3 rod holder attached to it. when taking out the jon i continued with the crate in the jon. when ice fishing came along i threw it in the sled. rod holders came in handy. the crate was my new tackle box.

i decided to scale down considerably this season kayaking when all my fish were coming from (3) setups

  1. slip bobbering the waxie
  2. dropshotting the waxie
  3. or tiny jigging the 2" Power Minnow

Yeah, that's "downsized" all right!

I'm more like your pic from the 80's, although I'm more "modular", with the ability to swap out different plano boxes into and out of my day-pack.  Different plano boxes contain lures for targeting different species.  I do have some duplicates between boxes.

I also have a large stash of backup lures to replace known proven lures as I loose them.  Those lures are usually purchased on clearance from various stores, when I have the funding.  I've been known to literally purchase every lure of a specific shape/size/color/brand.  Cashiers think I'm crazy.  I think I'm prepared....

thanks Jeff... i really started scaling down tackle fishing from shore and the kayak... put a proven bait in the zone and it catches fish. lessons learned from ice fishing and being one on one with the fish watching their actions reactions on sonar.

Nice.....I personally have thousands tied up in inventories and it often ends up being simple.....but I'm always looking for the next winner, just how it is.......the beauty of this photo is the fact that you can start fishing with just a little and add from there......
