Do you love big bluegill?
Got this one this past Friday while fishing with Mr Bob the carp guru. We had three runs and landed 2 fish before a cold front shut it down completely. This one took a bunch of waxworms packed on a #6 hook. Didn't weigh or measure, but she big!

Thanks, Jim. Yup, Andre's comments and pictures turned me on to Loch Raven. I did a pontoon boat tour on the Pocomoke this past November and couldn't believe how beautiful a river it was. To hear it's a bass tournament site wetted my appetite to get back with my own yak. Marburg Lake may well see me this summer as well.
John...Marburg Lake in York Co PA. 1275 acres.
Gary...I have fished both Loch Raven and the Pocomoke over the years. Loch Raven...excellent bass and pickerel lake...see Andre Sturkey, on this site with his Loch Raven pics. Tell him I sent you and he can answer any questions about that lake as he fishes there routinely.
Pocomoke...good crappie and pickerel, with a yellow and white perch run in the spring. some shad as well as bass. Nassawango Creek is a good kayak stream as is the upper reaches of the river.
Good Luck!
my wife is becoming more than just a casual angler.we encountered some enormous carp bluegill fishing last season.none landed as our gear was no match for these beasts .life got busy and we never got back to these ponds last season but i know where they live.and no i am not going after them thru the ice.no auger could drill a hole big enough.interesting that the ponds with huge carp also held bigger sunfish and crappies.maybe thins out the beds so less recruitment?they sure do muddy up the water tho/
Good God what a fish Jim!! Is that a lake or a pond there .Looks like a spawning area come the time for it !
Jim, do you ever fish Loch Raven Reservoir? It's on my "to do" list for this summer, along with the Pokomoke River out of Snow Hill, MD. I just got a kayak and plan on spreading my wings this summer and trying out a lot of new fishing spots.
That is a picture that should go up on your wall, Jim. Beautiful looking fish. I've gotta get me some of that!! Congratulations!!
this is awesome!... great fish... i always respect the fight!
my regret is i only fished a couple times for these guys last season.
Wow Jim...that sounds like a crazy sureal experience with the carp at night...whew!
nice fish jim.gonna really target the carp myself this year.want to get at least a 20 on a flyrod.they get big and fat here and are numerous in a lot of the places i bluegill fish.my club has grass carp pushing 50 lbs or better.not supposed to fish for them as they are weed control .
best carp fishing i ever had was in january ice fishing for crappies at night .we were fishing an old gravel pit in about 20 feet of water in submerged trees.ice was about 12 inches and clear as glass.with 2 coleman lanterns it was very surreal.like fishing thru a pane of glass as we could see the fish under us as they came up out of the trees.we must have caught a dozen very big carp on minnows and lost quite a few we could not get thru the 8 inch holes.was some of the strangest fishing ever.the only reason we were able to land em was they were so lethargic from the cold they did not fight much and kind of launched themselves out of the hole if you got their head in there.
