Do you love big bluegill?
Jim Gronaw called these simple but they were great.....
These two experimentals were awesome but have been battered now by bowfin, bass and dozens of big coppers.....The paint gets abused on these jigs but any bug/jig that I can catch fish on is worth the investment....

These big eye jigs are special here in the tidal waters....they mimic many small baitfish like tiny threadfin shad....Everything in brackish water will hit these jigs.....I fish them under a float and tip for best results, most often with live grass shrimp and crickets......

If I were to guess, Bruce (and you know I will).... I'd say Jim used prepainted jigs. I don't think it is his nature to waste time painting jigs... too many fish waiting to be caught for that!
I know he likes simple ties, too, for the same reason. The body looks like 3D holographic chenille -probably "fine" grade - and the tail white marabou.
