Pickerel  taste fine , and real good, when caught  through the ice when the flesh is firmer . I've eaten a few through the years .Five fillets are obtainable, but only three are boneless if done right .The top  ,and two backside cuts from the back of the dorsal to the tail are basically boneless. The two sides have floating bones that i've blended and made fishcakes out of .

Thanks John......we always released them growing up in Louisiana Keith and their populations are limited in these tidal waters so I have chosen to release the ones I catch here in North Carolina......Many folks ate them down in Louisiana but you know how the cajuns are right.....they'll cook anything....LOL...Never tried one so it wouldn't be a fair assessment for me to say they aren't good to eat so I won't........

I've got a good creek up here full of trophy Chain Pickerel. LOTS of fun to catch, just as vicious as the Pike. And Keith, in my opinion they are great to eat! (just mind the bones)

These are stocked in only one of the TWRA lakes I fish. I've caught a few fishing for LMB. Are they any good to eat?

About a minute Carl.....the fish made a shallow pass first and went deep near the boat but I got surfaced again and Joe put the net on her for me..........I miss more of these fish than I catch.......sometimes the lack of a drag hampers your efforts to play the fish down a bit........
