Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

We have a pretty good bloom of this small floating marsh plant but I personally do good around these patches as fish seek it out for shade and many small animals feed in and around this stuff.....Nature's chum!

We have had significant duck weed in our rivers in recent years but milder weather has held down the water temperatures and we don't have much this year.....

That works, too! Im a big fan of  the HOT LEAD HOT FOOT, properly applied.

Electricity was my friend for a little while, but I was forced to terminate our relationship and introduce another one of my friends. His name was 55 grain HP. I've found that his overbearing presence leaves little room for mis-interpretation.

Canine predators? Easy, man. Electricity is your friend!

I do miss not having chickens....... unfortunately, so do the coyotes, foxes, and the neighbors dogs!

Chickens, Tony chickens. A ton of fun, they could care less about the water and they're very useful......

Thanks guys.....I understand Tony's concern on an isolated body of water.....On a giant moving body of water like the Albemarle sound, it's here a few days and with a wind shift  it's gone......The protein content attracts the food chain on this river and therefore the fishing isn't hurt....We don't get it every year either, never really can predict i!

We're very fortunate not to have any duckweed, and waterfowl is very strenuously discouraged from hanging around......VERY strenuously. At least that goes for the Canada Geese and the Herons. We do have a couple wood ducks on pond #1, but as I haven't decided what to do with that water, it's not an issue yet.

I'm all about heading off problems before they show up. Including aquatic vegetation. Some of it is good, others not so much. And, the "good" stuff can easily get out of control also. It's a constant balancing act.

Tony it is high in protein; did you know that? If you have a few chickens or ducks, harvest the duck weed and feed it back to them. Feed it green, right out of the water If you don't have them, get some and let them run amok.

Too much is too much I guess Tony.
