I usually get um on a chunk of night crawler close to a submerged log thats in the middle of the creek.  They hit my bettle spins too.  Only color I have been able to get a bite on around here is black with red n yellow spots. Most of the ones I get are small end of the spectrum but there are some in there that fry up well.  I tried fishing with ninnows but the Gar and Bofin wont give any chance to catch the fish Im after. I have never seen so many Gar in one place.

They dont get real big, Brian. A 12" perch is a whopper.
The Latin name for the species, "perca flavascens," translate loosely to mean:
"CAUTION Damn thing is sharp!"

Well, VERY loosely translated...

Purdy perch! Good goin. I have caught some on a creek nearby but none were real anywhere from 4 to 10 inches. I never noticed the point on their gills. That does look mean.

First time as saw one here in SC, I had no idea what it was.
As bright and colorful as they are, my thought was an escapee from aquaria.
Id taken my young son to the local lake that day, and can still tell you the exact spot and the baits used.
I can't remember to put on underwear - but this, I can recall.
Weird.
