Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

A big 10 inch Flier off the Little River near Deep Creek...

I released this guy to get fat for next year......so many Fliers just ounces from a world record...One of these days! This fish was caught on the Silent Stinger tipped with a waxie.....

Fliers will continue to cooperate as the water temperatures fall through the 50s....

I may never top it Dick but I always set goals including when I fish....it's fun to have a challenge.....

Time and patience Jeffrey and I'm sure you will make the connection it seems you have some good spots for sure.

I thought I knew everything about bluegill fishing when I joined this site....turns out my book needed a few more chapters....Great thing is we all can learn....whether the first time angler or those addicted like me.....I'm 47 and I fished my first wax worm this past weekend...I still fish North Carolina as a resident for 15.00 but I've got over a hundred dollars tied up in non-resident licenses from Louisiana, South Carolina and Virginia for 2012........It wouldn't hurt as bad if the money went solely to the Wildlife and Fisheries departments.....

Jeffrey I swallowed my pride and made inquiries at my local bait shop this morning......After some incredulous looks, and a few snickers from the "regulars", the owner took me over to the cage and we got up close and personal with some hands on training......... hopefully, I can keep them alive on the hook for a little while.

I'll bet that my visit provides entertainment for the rest of the day. You know how it is in a small town, everybody knows everybody else, and for "the Bluegill guy" to admit he's never used crickets..... well, they're probably still laughing!

Hopefully, if the stars align just so, I will make a return to public waters this weekend, my first such visit in over 15 years.......I'm still in shock over what a fishing license cost... the last one I bought was only nine dollars....

Tony I'll throw up a pic tonight of a hooked cricket...little easier than splaining it!

He's safe for now Dick....this fish was way to pretty to cut....even if I was keeping fish this guy would get a pass....I truly believe I'm fishing amongst a record Flier and I'll probably pass out when it breaks the surface....I caught a big Crappie last month right after a Flier and for a moment all the air left my body....I was mad at a 13 inch Crappie...Go figure!

Another nice Flier Jeffrey then poor fish ain't safe with you around. Great job.

You know, Jeffrey's right. So, in the spirit of comraderie and fellowship here at BBG, I'm gonna' buy a tube of crickets. I have an adventure in mind for next weekend, circumstances permitting, and I believe that would be an ideal time for experimentation.... if Jeffrey is trying waxworms, then I will do likewise with crickets. Perhaps we will both expand our arsenal....

Jeffrey, waxworms like a temperature warmer than most refrigerators, but not room temperature, as they will cocoon..... I have a spare frig. that is set warmer to keep them in.....

Now, how do you hook a cricket??
