HEY JB, I WAS JUST BEING A GOOF ABOUT A 20' fly rod , but after reading about the roll cast you gave me an idea and will give it a whirl next time I'm up at Doc's pond. Haven't used that cast since my trout fishing days 15 years ago. THANKS..........

THANKS JEN and Doc's pond is pretty little thing and wished it were full of water.

About that 20' fly rod... a couple weeks ago I was taking a walk around our local ponds and heard the unmistakable sound of a fly reel behind some trees on one of the really small ponds. This pond is perhaps 80 feet x 50 yards (or less) and this guy was doing what was more or less a roll cast and almost putting his fly on the opposite bank. I stood there watching and after a while just had to tell him that his casting was an amazing thing to watch. I couldn't get half as far with the wind at my back. He was also using a shooting head. It was something like spey casting, almost, but it didn't appear to be a spey rod.

So, with some exotic gear, you could avoid the grass ;-)

Yup same drought situation here...most small ponds are dry and major lakes are anywhere from 8-17 feet low. Hoping for fall rains! But that is still a purdy pond ya got there

THANKS VINCE&LEO, yup this is Doc's pond Leo and there is a lot of room for back casting.

Water is so low though you have to stand down on the shore were I used to fish so the fly rod is about useless, UNLESS OF COURSE YOU HAVE A 20' FLY ROD to keep the line out of the grass above your head on the back cast! Great place and wish the drought was over and all my ponds restored to previous levels from last spring!

That's a picture perfect pond.

And look at all the false backcast room. Who's the lucky owner of this BOW?

Oh the body of water is about 120 yards long ,30 yds wide, and about 18 feet deep as close as I can figure.
