Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

36 RBS , 1 P seed Wanaque River Started with a Hendrix "Rascal" on the Flyrod ;immediate hits but no takes. Tipping the "rascal" with small piece of worm got 4 Red Breasted Sunfish. Switched to spinning rod 2# test line and a 32nd Chartreuse Jig I tied /tipped with Twister Tail ,The bait got down to the fish quicker in the shallow pools and caught 7 RBS in short order . Switched to an untipped beaded beige nymph my brother tied; threw it with the flyrod ,nothing . Switched to spinning rod and scaled down to a 64th oz .feather black head jig I tied. This was killer and caught 25 RBS and one Pseed without being tipped . Very low water conditions and stained. A fine 90 minutes of wading/fishing from stream rocks .Great way to bring in October! A size 10 or 8 hook is perfect for these little beauties!

Hey, if it's working - don't mess with success.
If you do some aquatic entomology research, you'll discover that most critters this jig might mimic aren't shaped like Thanksgiving turkeys. They're actually pretty sparse around the middle.
Add a few extra wraps of thread, maybe, or perhaps a course of yarn. But aside from that, I'd leave it alone.
Besides, simpler ties are easier on you. They're more forgiving, they use less materials and as noted- the fish seem to be fine with them!

Perhaps I should build an underbody like Mark suggests .next time . I 'll have to think about that and see what I got laying around .I know I have some black rabbit fur ,and some white rabbit fur too. Maybe I'll use that

Wow! That thing is definitely a fish magnet. That looks so much like a small black Asian cricket. WOW!

What kinda feather is that - I mean, which part of the bird did it come from?

looks nice. Also very "nymphy-esque," it reminds me of the critters that might prowl around the stream bed. My bet is there is some critter, nymph or crustacean, etc. creeping around the bottom which the fish are feeding on right now.

Id tie up about 5-8 more, label them 'October Bugs' and put them in the asection of the lure wallet dedicated to Fall baits.
