Do you love big bluegill?

They just never grow in our local lake. I have never caught one much over 7-8" out of the lake in close to 60 years of fishing it. They are not over-populated, the lake has been drained twice over the years and then re-stocked, had a huge winter kill of crappie a couple years ago, and they still remain small.
Some nice bass & catfish in the lake, fair bluegill (caught an 8"+ out of the same downed tree today), but crappie just don't flourish.
