...and did I mention the orange borders of your fish? That's a dead giveaway of a hybrid. :-)

...also the mouth is bigger than a regular bluegill.

Try to click on the link "differentiating between male and female bluegill on the left of the page of www.bigbluegill.com

thank you, I've got alot to learn. I've only been 'pondin' for about three weeks now. My wife Jen and daughter Hope, LOVE the pond, we have a lot of birds, don't have a clue what they are yet either. We really enjoy watching this one goose kick everyone's butt tho'. He or she is a riot! Thanx for any and all info, I DO appreciate that.

You can tell by the coloration, and the bordered ear tab. Probably a male. See the colored edge on the ear tab? Bluegill don't have that.

Bruce, could you please send me pictures of both male and female BG? I need to learn the difference. Not all my BG look like this, some have beautiful blue stripes others do not.

Is it male or female?

It IS a hybrid? thanks I would have never known. Is it easy to tell the difference? I was wondering why my bg had a orange belly, is that how you tell?
