...and did I mention the orange borders of your fish? That's a dead giveaway of a hybrid. :-)

...also the mouth is bigger than a regular bluegill.

thank you, I've got alot to learn. I've only been 'pondin' for about three weeks now. My wife Jen and daughter Hope, LOVE the pond, we have a lot of birds, don't have a clue what they are yet either. We really enjoy watching this one goose kick everyone's butt tho'. He or she is a riot! Thanx for any and all info, I DO appreciate that.

You can tell by the coloration, and the bordered ear tab. Probably a male. See the colored edge on the ear tab? Bluegill don't have that.

Bruce, could you please send me pictures of both male and female BG? I need to learn the difference. Not all my BG look like this, some have beautiful blue stripes others do not.

It IS a hybrid? thanks I would have never known. Is it easy to tell the difference? I was wondering why my bg had a orange belly, is that how you tell?
