Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Caught early November on A&A jigs tipped with bee moth. some measured 10-inches. Gills were deep and thick. Use 1# diameter Fireline. Also catch them through the ice. Lake seldom fished.

The church camp lake has no crop fields nearby and is feed by a strong flowing spring. It is a ravine with an earthen dam--deepest spot 23 feet. The property is 225 acres with many cabins. I stay in a cabin for $10 a night. Sorry, it is not open to the public, but, I'm allowed to take friends.

The big gills come from an 18-acre church camp that allows very little fishing. The lake is full of stunted bass. The bluegill that live long enough to become too large for the little bass really get big. We often catch two at a time through the ice.
