20161003-Loaded up the “Long Cast” spinning rods with some new GLISS

20161003-with ice fishing just around the corner we headed out to Northwoods Wholesale Outlet for some needed supplies, new auger blades, ice rods, ice line and also some new GLISS line for the long casting rods tossing those tiny jigs the longest distance.

After a few fishing periods from Spring Cold Water period thru the Post-Summer period this season we determined GLISS to be the line of choice for Long-Casting the tiny jigs. Its properties include, very slick, thinnest and strongest. It tossed the tiniest jigs the furthest in my experience so it becomes the line of choice now replacing ice braid and Nanofil.

Earl and I loaded the new line on a couple of our Long-Casters spinning reels and headed to the lake shore for some testing.

The setups now including the GLISS were conclusively out casting all the other line types previously tested thru the seasons including mono, ice braid, braid, fluorocarbon and Nanofil. Nanofil was a close second. Sensitivity was off the charts similar to other non-stretch superlines with fluorocarbon a distant second followed by the mono.

Thru our testing we did manage to tag a few nice SMB (including a couple dinks) and a jumbo 9” class b.gill.

thanks John!... my SMB was 15" class for the largest... Earl ended up with a nice one. its a spot we go to for a guaranteed bite from shore for the SMB's... we wanted to do some comparisons on distance for the new lines on the set-ups.

These fish are PB for me and my two sons, all caught on 5# Power Pro tied directly.

36" Musky, 22" LMB, 21" SMB, 20" SMB, 24" Channel Catfish, pair of 18" SMB, and 22" LMB

Yeah, that was from my phone. Using Chrome on my Android. The PC has the boxes at the top.

Where did you find 4# Power Pro? Have two reels with white, one with green and one with red 5# Power Pro. Like the white and red the best because I can see the line, green I can't.

I have Nanofil on one rod, a 6 foot ultralight, used mostly for tossing mini crankbaits(3/4"-2" size). Has worked quite well but have not tested for distance. I'll take your word that Gliss casts longer, will try some.

i love my Power Pro... and i used to long cast the jigs with it.. but i get more distance with Nanofil or GLISS. i have learned there just not one line type ideal for every fishing conditions.

well Kelly thank you for your testimonial and kind words...:)

i have Power Pro 4# red on two of my slip/float rods... like you say it test well above its rated strength.

what a great story on those Muskies!

one of my best experiences with braid was mid summer i was fishing the heavy slop and pads when my float went under on a slow bite... setting the hook the water exploded into a froth. the fish was heavy and i was cutting the pads with the braid as the fish ran and circled around the slop... at first glance i thought it was a channel cat then i eased the dog fish into the kayak all hell broke loose and i ended up losing the 30" class fish ... it was a beast!! the braid held tight!!!. i horsed this fish in!

looking over the water looked like a battle ground with cut pads and weeds...LOL
