Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

071016- BFOTD!! ONE OF A FEW 9" CLASS B.GILL

Many quality B.Gills tagged with the Slip/Float/Fly/Waxie pitching into open water areas fishing the slop and pad fields… lost many good b.gills pulling them thru the pad stalks… tagged a few with a small swimtail jig 1/64 oz

Best way to answer is to give a short rundown of the Master Angler Program for those to read who are unfamiliar…

Here in Michigan we have the Master Angler program that a state licensed fisherman would be given the opportunity to register a minimum length fish set by rules and regulations by the DNR as a trophy sized fish. These minimum lengths established are tough to accomplish and are fish of trophy sized and proportion. Once your entry form is filled and sent to the DNR. They put your name on a permanent database itemizing statistics of the fish and send you a frame-able certificate as well as an embroidered patch. Michigan was one of the first to establish this type of program and is somewhat used as a model in other states that now offer some type of minimum length certificate program.

Here is the one I just received recently for my B.Gill

Programs like this bring big money into the states… more time on the water means more money being spent locally and thru the states by fisherman… many fisherman like me is what we fish for. Its just not fishing for food on the table as a reward…. but adds that competitive edge to the sport.

Here is the device I use to measure my fish most of the time… it incorporates a keychain tape measure. Works great!... I have a habit of guessing the actual length of the fish and checking with the tape…. Most of the time ill come within a 5% margin. The device itself is about 12” long and the jaws are 1.7” wide.
