Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

2016-01-27-18-29-59 - BFOTD!!! 12"CLASS Y.PERCH

20160124- … today we got a little earlier start and we had little 3 year Connor with us today…
The weather looked grim for any extended length of time fishing… so the plan was to hit the good spots straight away. Earl started the day with an active N.Pike caught on the micro jig and live waxie. It took me awhile to find any decent panfish. We caught many tiny Y.Perch in the deep basins so moving shallower I quickly hooked up with (2) Y.Perch Jumbos while ticking the short weed beds standing in (8) ft of water. 2 jumbos within 15 mins. A stray B’Gill was caught in short order.
Our outing ended when we had to call it on gusting winds blowing the shanty around.
What time we had on the ice today was premium and noted.

thanks...with the wind picking up and wind chill diving we could tell this was going to be our shortest trip so far on the ice with Connor.

That's a chunk. Way to make the most of your time out there.

Yeah they are great fish… funny thing is the lake we were fishing wasn’t known for having perch of any decent size. I ended up catching 2 jumbos within 15 mins then one broke the line at the hole that was significantly larger… really surprised me. Your right you never know what you’ll hook into.

Got to love the perch. I can't wait to try ice-fishing. I've got a friend in Ohio who does this. The appealing thing to me is that you never know what you'll hook into!
