I hope that's not the case here too Slip .Would really like to ice fish where I'm catching Crappie and Perch but if I have to suffer through thin ice a 10' boat  cant break through I'll have to change it up and explore new water .

looking at the long range forecast into mid January we're avg'ing around 10 degs above normal i cant project safe ice. maybe no ice fishing at all this year for us

Amen on feeding the obsession!.......you guys be safe up there and hope you get a few hard water trips in this season as well!

thanks Jeff... yep still having fun... boats all winterized and there is no way im going kayaking in my kayak this time of year... wrong style kayak. so you do what ya gotta do to satisfy the obsession. always had a good bite with SMB's in the past from shore but scaled the presentation down considerably to include crappies, panfish etc. works... its been my rule of thumb the past spring , summer and fall open water seasons.

the past week or so ... skim ice in the morning sometimes lasting all day... transition time here up north is one to two month period for safe ice to develop.
