Do you love big bluegill?
20150625-Wixom Lake …. Started out the morning with a game plan. I saw a lot of B’Gill hitting on the surface the past few days fly rod would be one solution. So I brought it along with 3 spinning rods. Too much? Lol … it proved to be.
As I eased into my spot … a heavy vegetated shoreline I started with the fly rod and had a few hits straight away I successfully landed about the fifth hit. They were completely missing the popper and I nailed one with a fly. Great fun and a great fight but after getting tangled a few times and I started to feel an ache in the old arm so I put it away. No more kayaking fly rodding for me. Once the jon boat is back in service ill pick up on the fly rod again.
I continued where I left off … hitting the open weed pockets with accurate casts tight up to cover and producing decent B’Gills from 6.5 to approaching 8.5”. Had to take the pictures of a couple of the dinks … such beautiful coloration this time of year.
I continued hitting my familiar shoreline spots with the kayak picking up one B’Gill here and another there. Nice over all fishing session
