Yeah, I've done that as well, hooked a fish just after baiting up and messing with the float.
Sometimes, I will paddle/patrol the shoreline of one of my home lakes, collecting trash, bobbers, the occasional lure, etc. If the wind is strong enough and from the right direction, I can just drift with the wind, only the occasional paddle dip to keep my heading. I've gotten within arm's reach of an area of weeds that clearly had "something" below the water's surface knocking the weeds around when it realized I was there.
i hear ya Allen.... the other day i was parked with my sneak boat (kayak) on a shallow area loaded with cover. i was doing some rigging on another rod so i dropped my slip float and bait over the side and immediately hooked up with a 9 inch perch ...under the kayak.
the only way im going to be able to fly fish out of the kayak is if i dont bring any other rigs with me... and thats tough to do. hopefully my jon boat will be on the water soon. my 3wt will go with me then.
Remember, if you're quiet, you can sneak in REALLY close to fish. Like within 20'. Don't need a long cast with the buggy whip.
thanks Carl... your right its one or the other especially in the kayak... ill wait to bring it back out when the boat is ready to hit the water again... really tough out of the kayak... alot of tangles. but certainly is fun.
there ya go slip stinker!!! now just keep at it!! leave the spinning gear and just use the fly rod!! LOL!!
