i remember buying the motor in 1983 and used it alot on 14fters at the cottage. this motor used to really push the boats. it had that pattented big merc sound. i basically retired it using it sporadically when i got my bass boat in 1988. it blew a water pump in 1995. took it apart and pkged it up and havnt touched it since. i gave up fishing for about 11 yrs because of neck and limited use of the right arm.
so evaluating the motor this morning
rotted fuel line
new water pump
and housing
kill switch rubber button rotted
missing intake screen for water pump
apparently i thought this model was a 1973 because it was in the model no. but nooooo it is a 1969 and very few parts available for it. i can get a water pump impeller and housing but thats about it.i lubed the cylinders and started it second pull for a couple seconds. thats good.
ill just patch this baby up and use it till something major fails. a used parts dealer would give me up to 200.00 for it depending on the shape of the bonnet and lower unit. so i got that in my back pocket. ill put it on the 15 footer and see how she moves.
it might be a bit old;; but those mercs are made to run forever!!
Looks like a bit of work to get the monster to reawoken.
Is that a short shaft? Look s great .Loved my old long shaft 25 hp I had back in the late 80's.
