Tony, that is a red ear but it was in very deep water I guess that is why the colors are faded

That fish looks odd for a Bluegill. Its shape is reminiscent of a Redear to me. Its mouth appears large, but that may be just a feature of how it's being held.
Are those blue striations under its eyes, or is the lighting playing tricks on me?
If I had to guess, based on this one photo, I believe I might lean toward a female Redear, sporting faded out winter colors. I would love to see some more photos of this fish.
