angeloyour o the right track-take some of those big hackle feathers and tie them on as the tail with the feathers curving out ward.put atleast 2 naybe 4 on each side leave the marabou if you want but it does get soggy and heavy and will make it harder to lift the fly to recastwhen you fish em you will understand better.i don't use rubber legs either as they can make the fly twist in the air like a propeller.you want them light as it is workout throwing large bass bugs.you can turn that head around to give it a different action.a mono weed guard is a good idea.i only make 2 kinds.round head out and cupped head out and painted like a frog, eyes do seem to matter to bass.lots of stuff online.i only buy the foam frog colored bodies anymore.

PS - there is also a certain art to making a popper really sing in the water.

To be blunt, Angelo, I've never understood what the fish see in these things, period. I've never taken many fish with them, although I admit some do good with them.
I toss them primarily for the visual effect. There ain't nothing like seeing the fish take a popper of the top!

I see people using a hackle feather in with marabou on certain poppers. thanks, my wife did the paint job. I agree David with the colors, but they seems to favor purple or junebug colors, I'am talking about Bass this popper has a longer tail and longer leg's hopefully lure in a decent bass or even some big gills. don't think that the flash will help but it fits the colors

And PS - that looks super clean. Nice work..

Keep in mind the fish won't ever see the top. So, whatever you do up there is for your edification.

I've heard and accepted that the basic coloring should be yellow or white bottoms for fishing in daylight, and black for night... and some will say a dark bottom all the time.

From an embellishment standpoint, this cuts your painting in half.

I agree with David.  There ain't nothing better than marabou!

Better than marabou? Nothing. I doubt there is anything that comes even close.
