Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Over 90% of my panfish were caught with the tackle contained within this small Plano 3449 tackle box...
Drop-shotting and slip-floating the Gulp Waxie... tipping GULP Waxie on the chain n crank
2" Power Minnow
not shn "Spring Cricket"  (my tie) lost the last one on a toothy pred
and
Dick Tabberts Jelly Jig
this is basically all i take with me nowadays either out in the kayak, boat or glove box

slip stinker;; if I just HAD to down size;; it would be something like this;;; all of these fit nicely in this small plastic box;; and could proably add a couple of more flies;; or maybe a popping bug !!

slip stinker;; yep;; this bag goes with me on every trip ! its set up ; stricly for pan fish;; blue gills; and crappie !  if I ; JUST HAD to reduce;; give me 3 extra no. 6 hooks;; 3 extra sinkers;; Im good to go !  but;; not my preferred way any more !  and; I keep at least 3 fly rods rigged up;; and 3 spinning rods rigged up- at all times ( spinninng rods  straped to the side deck)  and maybe even a extra spinning rod and fly rod; in the rod box...  when I do get a chance to go fishing;;  I want everything ready;; not having to change line; bait; or something like that;; just reach over; and pick another one up. several times in the past;; had a gill hooked;; stripe started running; no time to land the gill; just laid the rod down; grabbed a spinning rod; caught a stripe;; just that fast !

Comment by Slip Sinker on December 8, 2015 at 12:09pm

do you take all that stuff with you on each trip or do you condense?... if you had to carl how small can you get your go to lures and baits into one box? what would it look like?  the pocket sized box measures about 4.5 x 6.5 and 1" thick

slip stinker; all of that stuff; fits neatly into this tackle bag from; flambeau tackle company;  I like  varity when I go fishing;  and; should the fish be finicky; I want something I can use to entice them;; not go home skunked;; and on some occassions; I had to really dig deep into my bag to find something they would take !  but just think;; Jeffery Abnethy; had to get another boat to use for his tackle stuff;; LOL  and;; as for the quills I make;; I bet; I gave away at least 2 hundred or more since I started making them;; 50 were giving away; at our last rendevou !!

Carl... its just an exercise... how minimally small can you effectively reduce your tackle into a box this size and still be competitive and effective out on the water with numbers of species and numbers of fish? adding a stipulation with no live bait buckets or containers. this is a size tackle box that easily fits and stores in a glove box or pocket.

im an old fart too... i've been collecting since i was cutting grass for money and walking to the local bait shop... artificial s were my thing and still are. i have many Plano boxes filled boarder lining ridiculous. i'm currently in the planning stages of a garage remodeling that will include all my prized possessions in an organized system.

slip stinker; this is my;; go to tackle stuff

Comment by carl hendrix on December 8, 2015 at 11:41am

slip stinker; you asked; how big can my tackle box be;; its better to say; how many do I have !  I make up; a go to tackle bag; thats kept handy on my boat; but; also ; keep a secondary bag  for other type of fish; stripe; bass so forth; in a storage area. then; also I have 2 ; or is it 3 other bags i keep at home;  one is set up for trade stuff; for guys in my local area.  but;; in my - go to bag; i keep Mark Stines popping bugs; Allan Morgans stuff; Dick Tabberts; Tooty;s Jim Gronaws;; not to mention my junk !  and-- at some point on each fishing trip I make;; its a guarantee; I use everybodys stuff !  I even have a few-- just hooks and sinkers !

Joe thanks.... and thanks for sharing! yep ive been know to cut little nibbles off the waxies for the tiny bite. last time i tried this was in a bluegill school in over 20ft of water. on radar most fish signals look generally the same and a 3" B'Gill looks the same as a 10" target. to identify the fish i drop in the smallest offering sometimes the school will be tiny gills or we'd luck out and find jumbos. the point is big gills like tiny baits as well and we identify the schools.

slip stinker;; I have tried ; ( down sizing my tackle boxes) but;;  way to many times in the past; I wished I had what I had left at home !!  altho; I primarily fly fish; there are those times i need a spinning rod n reel; stripe might be running; or a bass needs o be removed from a area;; way to many different sitituations for me; to limit myself.  old saying still goes for me;; its better to have it; and not need it; than to need it and not have it !!  besides;; some of my ; ( other tackle) has come in real handy !
