I'm in here now John.....I catch many white perch on live bait and equally on artificial.....A local man makes my favorite white perch bait...It's called the "Perquimans Pickle", named after the river fished most often by the guy that invented it....I'll talk more and add some photos of the rigs when I get home later this week.....

Charlie -In my home lake Yellow Perch are coming on bottom in relatively shallow basin areas or flats (10-12')and close to creek Channels.Long drifts dragging /lifting /dropping a worm tipped spoon is working for me .If the wind moves the boat too fast and I'm missing fish ,I backtroll into the wind to slow down . I end up catching them that way  .I still have to try other deeper basin areas that might have larger Yellows though .

Found a good way to catch White Perch the other day .The 1/8th oz.Blue Fox Flash spoon or Kastmaster (like Musky Mod uses for Bull Gills) tipped with 1/2 a baby nightcrawler .A certain retrieve only produced White Perch as they are often more aggressive on a faster presentation .The idea was to get it to the bottom and jerk and scoot a horizontal swath . They banged it when presented this way while Yellow perch and Gills wanted a slow lift or slow drag . It was very specific for the White Perch ! I have noticed White Perch often are found with these other fish ,including Crappie but can only be caught with a faster speed of presentation than what is catching the other species. This has proven to be the case several times and now I always pick up the pace when targeting White Perch no matter what the season or month .They always seem to be in higher gear than the other pannies .

Let's talk summer perch tactics! Where do you look for perch? Deep flats, hard bottom, soft bottom? What type lakes have  good perch population? Bigger, clearer, smaller,weedy?

Since perch seem to move around alot I'd like to narrow down the search area some by targeting the mostly places.

I've never really targeted just perch but would like to. Whenever I catch a nice one while gilling I never seem to be able to get more.

Welcome to the group Vince !Looking forward to hearing about your Perch catches .I hope you'll post some Perch photos too. Do you catch White Perch also? They are quite different to Yellows and take to a fast retreived Spinner or Crankbait .I also mostly catch Yellow Perch on small jigs up to 16th oz. and feel the Yellows prefer a slow retreive near bottom most of the time . At times spoons ,spinners and cranks will take Yellow Perch too but a worm tipped feather,Marabou, or Bucktail jig is my choice weapon .Love ice fishing for Yellow and White Perch and cooking and eating them out on the ice with Nephews and Brother!

 I  guess people do not think of Georgia as a place to catch yellow perch. I fish backwater lakes off the Chattahoochie River about an hour north of Atlanta for these tasty fish. My best one here weighed 1lb. 12oz.. I prefer fishing a 1/32 or a 1/16oz. jig with a tube skirt tipped with a minnow. My go to color is a blue and white tube, but have caught them on many other combinations depending on the conditions.
