I'm betting you work them close to bottom since its a jig but do you catch fish retrieving at different speeds up in the water column too?
i catch fish anyway i retrieve them. but i found that a lure that works better sometimes is a beetle spin grub with the spinner off. or a road runner
I don't understand. Is the hook hanging from the minnow? Or, are they separate?
It's a jig Sharon .You rig it so the hook pokes out.Like you would a twister tail or plastic grub. Or a swimbait in fact.
ok, I've had "fish" like that. Nothing bites them. Also, had a silver fish, nothing bites that either. Artificial grasshopper, ditto. My current question is..... If there are live minnows all over the pond, why would fish bite the ones on the hook? They aren't even eating the free ones.
I 've wondered that myself. The action of making it an easy injured meal I believe is why artificials work .The predator fish aren't chasing the unhooked real live minnows because the 'Energy Expenditure Principle' applies. Too much work for the meal.Predator fish are patient like Hawks and make the kill on an instinctive experience that tells them this meal will be worth the energy expended.
