Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I have not fished lake Perris from a float tube since they lowered the water several years ago.

I always launched my tube from Bernasconi Beach but that seams like an impossibility now. I know the Road still enters the water at Bernasconi but I'm not sure if they still let you launch from there. If they do… what time do they lock the gates?

Would love any input from regular PerrisTubers regarding the above and also with options they feel would be beneficial. Sail Cove is also a viable alternative. Particularly interested in the East end of the Lake… I never tubed there but see a lot of guys fishing it. Rock Climbers was always my favorite spot… Alas it doesn't exist anymore since the lowering of the water.

Also noted some discussion on what make of tube is best. My old one was a Caddis U Boat type… did the job but was hard work… looking for something that would make it a bit easier on my old knees. any input appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

JB, the reasons are quite simple:

1. It's on sale.

2. It makes your wader looks not just great, but gorgeous. Hm..should I be using that for a guy? How about, it makes you look like, "You can't touch this."

I wonder if those reasons will work with my wife? :p

You see, your reason is: " Hon, if you can buy a new outfit, then turn around wanting a new pair of shoes to go with the outfit, swing around a few days later decide to buy matching purse, sweater, hand bag, and jewelries to match the outfit, well, I can at least get a matching float tube for this wader. Right? You always wanting me to match, right?"

Just make sure to duck.

Nice recommendation, Dilly. I have a bunch of heavy vinyl sail cloth, and I was thinking of using Velcro to attach it to the interior of the fabric shell, and so add another later of protection to the bladders.
Whaddaya think?

Great idea, but just be careful of any fold the material may have. The folds will cause the bladders to weaken over time, and you will have that sinking feeling.

Thanks for the heads up, Leo.
You are my go-to guy!

Any Tubers here use Fish finders? Thoughts please...

Those who don't use fish finders are those who know the water and sunken structures like the fishes themselves. I use fish finders even though I know the waters, to learn of the fish migratory behaviors. No matter what mastery and whispering capability you may have, conditions change rapidly and there's no way to tell where the fish will be next.

Rob,
You seriously need to get tutored by Leo. He is perhaps, the King of Float Tubes here and, yes, he uses a sonar on his...among many other gadgets.
Whenever I think float tubes, I first think of Leo. I am looking forward to his response to this.

LOL! I'm not the float master. I believe there are many unvoiced masters here. They just watch the discussions and minimize their knowledge sharing. There are plenty of float tube forums which goes beyond the common mods like mine. I simply bring the mods idea together, calculate for proper structure integrity, and combine them together to create a universal design for various other designs to attach to the main structure. I'm still looking for a cheap scuba drive to place under my Fish Cat for that extra "umph" of a kick to where I want to go.

See what I mean, Rob? The King!

PS What separates a master from the merely accomplished is his willingness to share and teach.
For the time being, google float tube and fish finder. You'll find all kinds if info.
There is also an excellent forum for float tube fishing, and Leo and Jeff are key members there. Either. can give you the link
