Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

This time of year I don't fish with floats much, but last year people liked buying them as gifts. I was wondering if any of you sold your floats?

I mostly trade or barter or give away my floats but I have sold several at the Reelfoot Arts and Crafts Fair. I enjoy making them too much to try to make a profit it would seem like another job. I don't need another one of those.

Ain't nobody wanna buy my junk. I don't make em fancy; they just work.

Hey Scruff, thats the most important thing. People who have bought mine thought they looked nice but I hoped they actually tried them. I'd hate to think  all of them are sitting on a shelf somewhere.

Well sometimes one needs to display works of art. I keep these on my desk as a part of my interest in Americana

all works of art here Joe;;  shows great talant  of Keith !!

Beautiful.

I agree, David, Kieth. In fact most people don't fish my float even though I designed them to work well. The cool look happened as a by product, but the #1 complement is they look cool.

My opinion is that most people like to fantasize about fishing by buying fishing gear, reading books, watching videos, but never put it to practice. When I go to the fishing section of the sporting goods store, most of the stuff there won't help me catch more fish. It just makes people fantasize about fishing.

For instance crappie fishermen. The spider rigging guys with eight rods hanging off the boat. I remember watching a video of a guy teaching people how to use one rod and a slip float. He was catching just as many crappie as the spider rigging guys trolling the area. I mean you could see it on camera. What was the difference? The spider rigger spent eight times as much money but didn't catch any more fish than the one rod guy, lol. That attitude drives the sport fishing industry.

Thoughts are dead right, here. I've never really put my hand to "art in floats." I'd be shocked if anyone wanted to give me money for bobbers. Honestly, the idea never occurred to me!

I like to try to simplify my fishing if I can. Using found objects for lures and floats and Yard Sale or flea market semi vintage tackle is where I'm at now. I guess I'm just cheap at heart, the people who follow the fads are always up-grading and discarding very usable stuff.

I do this too. I take some perverse pleasure in reworking a washed up float, or turning a towel and skewer into one.

I just give mine away;; gave several to friends here on bbg ;; several more to guys fishing in my area ( couple went to game warden buddies of mine )  mostly I make quill floats;; when I can get good descent ones.   for the real float maker;; I consider Keith Ritter at the top of the list !  his craftsmanship is unique;; has great talant

Yep so true about Keith.
I have wanted to try quill floats, but never get around to it.
