Went out for a few hours this morning hoping to get into some decent 'gills and take a few home. It was not one of my better days...broke my leader and didn't have another leader or my tippet and to…Continue

Just want to say thanks to the great people on Big Bluegill! After reading a few of the post in several groups, I went to BassPro and got some pink Gulp Power Wigglers (look like little maggots) and…Continue

Tidal Crappie are beginning to push shallow on the rivers of the Albemarle in coastal North Carolina.........been catching a few nice ones pictured here since the middle of the month and April stands to be a great month as it normally is.........a few big largemouth on beds this weekend and also catching a few gills in staging areas.....after recent swings I visited three area rivers over the weekend and water temps are between 59 and 62.3 across the board........some rivers are a week or so ahead of others and hopefully our Northeast winds will begin to fall out of the forecast so the water will not be pushed out of the shallows anymore......always hurts spring fishing when the water dumps.....Good luck fishing North Carolina Style folks.......
Larry;; if your referring to lake lure; close to chimney rock;; you have to have a liscense to fish there; as well as a state liscense. also; years ago; you could rent a boat there; very clear water; deep water as well.;; plenty of cypress trees and stumps to fish around; swimming areas nearby to ..
Does anyone fish Lake Lure? I have a house rented there in August and need some leads so I can keep the kids fishing and not in the house on the internet. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for sharing Richard.......I may find me a partner and drag him down for the tourney..........
Jeffery;; sounds like a crappie challange !! LOL

Thanks for the lead Richard........those are very good panfish waters as well in that region.......Pamlico head waters are very similar to the Albemarle........I'll be fishing some local tourneys by then but I may stick my pole in that draw........

Just posting cause I know Charles and Dennis fished it last year, and since Speckle and some of the guys on the coast read this board now, thought they may be interested too.
The Vanceboro Rotary Club and the local Boy Scout Troop up there will be having there annual panfish tournament Saturday April 30th, rain or shine. Entry fee is $40 per team and 1st place is 40% of total entries. It's a 15 fish aggregate weight and only blue bream, shellcrackers and red breast are weigh-able fish.
I'm not affiliated with those folks, but I've fished it for several years, always had a good time. If you like to bream fish and want to fish a good tournament, here's your chance. They give away a lot of door prizes, have a good turn out and you typically see some really nice fish caught.
They usually put in at Cowpen Landing.
So I got out ahead of Winter Storm Jonas on Thursday and had to break through skim ice on the Albemarle after several nights in the teens........Most of the state is in the grips of the storm this weekend so we'll wait it out and hopefully get back out soon........tremendous rains and the associated runoff overnight in the Northeast corner of the state........Noreasters are a way of life around here so we'll get through this one and hope for some 60s soon to rebound............
Got a nice batch for the fryer and almost froze to death earlier today getting them cleaned.........but one of my favorite meals is fried fish in the winter so we'll enjoy them......
Good deal Jason......hope you have a great 2016 and share some of your testimony and pictures with the group.......if I can get anywhere close to last year and 2014 I will be very happy........we've had a nice run down east with no significant fish kills in many years so we are peaking from a panfish life cycle........I've got some great places that return to my fishing lineup for 2016 including one body of water that I have rested since amazing results in 2013.....It's public water and may have been hit by other anglers but this technique has paid off big time in the past so we'll see how it turns out........with just 60 days until spring it's very exciting..............
