Dick im anchored in place and the fish are moving slowly horizontally and vertically in the water column

Great example of fishes lingering below the sonar. Each fishes has a unique movement behavior. If one studies sonar returns long enough for the different species, one can identify quickly. I can identify LMB, kitty, carp, and panfishes based on arches. When they're in or close to a structure, the identification rate is reduced to 30% probability.

im getting better Leo at identifying schools mainly by their position and movement in the column.

i had a blast confirming their identity with a ice fishing jig and maggot. could see the jig dropping into the school and then catching the fish. like a video game!

these gills were gorging themselves on flys heading to the surface from the deep mucky basin.

that was a great vid for selling the Elite-7 HDI

With that unit of yours, I wouldn't be surprised if you can distinctively identify the species that is gorging on your bait/fly, based on the arch density. Colors are a wonderful thing, especially when you want to know how big/thick the species is. Mastering it, you know exactly which species you're targeting. It's definitely like watching a video game. It's pure fun.

What type of battery source are you hooking that unit of yours to for your kayak vs the boat.

Leo .... i use a Werker WKA12-7f lead cell battery that came with the lowrance ice fishing pak

small and light and lasts all day.

i use this battery with a lowrance elite 4

i should say all month ice fishing

Wow! All month? My 12V lead battery, even with insulation, at 12AHr, only last me about 5 days outing, roughly about 4hrs per session at full power. Yeah, it doesn't make sense since the FF takes 1.2AHr to run.

I have a lighter power pack, LiPO at 14.8V 8AHr, yet, it can produce a solid 7 days of outings at 4Hrs each session.

That lead battery must be weighing a freaking ton.

i only went 4 or 5 times ice fishing  last year at 2 - 3 hrs a shot
