Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

FIRST TIE- "SPRING CRICKET"

One thing ive noticed about favorite or popular B.Gill baits is the B.Gill's fascination for rubber legs… one of my most favorite ties growing up as a kid was the foam spider with those rubber legs. A few years ago I bought my first fly rod set-up and a cardboard card of foam orange and tan spiders. The second day flyrodding I tag my personal best B.Gill of 9.8” and the love affair with the spider continued.

Ice fishing season then was upon me and I decided to create a jig with the spider look. I bought the chenille and insect legs, thread, 1/64 oz jigs and a fly tying tool kit on EBAY. I was on my way. I found its special niche in long casting the shallows in ice-out early spring where a low gliding slow sinking jig was needed as a presentation. This jig responded well with the B.Gills, B.Crappie and P.Seeds.

Summer peek im making shorter casts in weed pockets and weed edges.

Currently I made a batch of crickets with pink yarn instead of the chenille and am field testing.

very nice

thanks Mark!...

Nice. Tans, oranges and yellows work well in may waters as well. Where do you get those pattern-colored rubber legs?

I've bought mine from Fly tyer's Dungeon. It's more of a thick spiner bait materials than a silicone legging material. It catches fish plenty goo enough: http://www.flytyersdungeon.com/Materials/Chart_Bug_Legs.htm

Yarn is the only thing I use for body materials anymore.

ty Damon...

i got the rubber insect legs at a local sporting outlet... Jay's Sporting Goods...

i just havnt been able to get back there to restock lately

yep... so i substituted pink yarn and caught my PB best B.Gill ...lol

i did happen to find some very similar silicone legs on a LMB jig that should keep me busy for awhile
