Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Looks like some people fish for white perch here? I have been trying and looking for them on Cape Cod. Many years ago we used to catch them at dusk using shrimp under a bobber in a salt pond. In recent years I went back with a fly rod, caught a few but generally did not have too much luck.  I think this particular pond has been either fished out or predators like cormorants have reduced the population of perch there.  Would be interested in how others fish for them, and types of water like salt, brackish or    fresh etc?  I hit a blitz with a fly rod once in a salt water bay during the day, and they were huge white perch which was a lot of fun.  I would like to see that again.  I plan to explore some new likely spots this spring.  A local fisherman said that he catches them all winter in a fresh water pond (connected to salt by a long herring run) using big chubs.  I tried a few times but had no luck.

Try over here ,there is some discussion regarding White Perch here: http://bigbluegill.com/group/piscatorialpursuitofperch

White Perch on a Flyrod sounds like a blast .The ones I catch in Freshwater lakes arent big (up to 12" maybe ) are strong and aggressive  for their size! I respect them!

I've caught them in lake Norman, and they've been found in lots of bodies of water. From what I understand, they'll hit all types of baits/lures. I've caught them using night crawlers. Seen them caught on all types of stuff.

I have some things to offer to this discussion and will get them in as soon as I can.

Suffice it to say for now that those targeting 'whities' around here use multi hook rigs on the bottom.
