Do you love big bluegill?

what is the differnts between wax worms and meal worms, i was wanting to get some for bluegill fishing and wanting to know witch is the best and what is the differents..Thanks Mark

All this is fascinating stuff. As I've said before, none of these baits are available to me here. Were I to buy them in quantity on line, well... then I have a mess of the things in storage when I'm not going fishing.

Ive been out of fishing for years and am still rounding up local places to fish on a regular basis. I wont be collecting larval worm livestock for awhile. But, oddly, this is one of the few times I wish I lived back up in Minnesota - I know they have them there!

i have got alot of info on the worms  and love it to,i am going to get my containers and feed for the worms and will have them going by next sunday because i have to drive a good way to go get the meal worms but they will be free!  Every little bit counts!

 I know my wifes uncle says he has caught alot of bluegills and some huge ones too and he said he will not go fishing without them, well i hope i have as good luck as he has had with them

Sooo, I guess you're going to visit your uncle? Would it be possible to take some pics of his setup? From your earlier description, it sounded like he was doing it the 'redneck' way, which means simple and uncomplicated.

I could do something like that that out behind my own shed!  Looking forward to your feedback.

I would trust that VadosBaits in Minnesota- I have ordered bait in bulk for 9 years now - they are consistently the best. 

 

Shipping is the key. Shipping is expensive so when ordering you have to order your entire amount for the summer and split it with a friend (bait & shipping) this way you are not eating the $6 - $9 in shipping (can be more if you are shipping bulk spikes)...

 

Their bait is fresh and large.

Is it safe to say then that bait like this, when ordered in bulk, will keep in the fridge?

Im picturing the darned things dying. Or worse, you go out to get a beer and are attacked by a swarm of flies or beetles when you open the thing....

Not every fridge or situation is cut out for storing these. If you have a power outage - YES you will have flies. If they get wet - you will have these all over the place.

 

The secret- when you have them you FISH! I am fishing Tuesday & Wednesday unless it is nasty because I have bait. Don't try to store it for a month - then you will always have fresh bait.

The wax worm is the larvae stage of the wax moth, not flies, that would be the meal worm.

And the meal worm isn't a worm, either. It is the pre-pupal larvae of the darkling beetle.

And technically if your fridge is back running they will be "crawls" because they will be too chilled to take off - but a mess, yes. It's the Beemoth because it eats wax, it's not made of wax - although those would be cool, because you could put a wick in them and go night fishing.
We can get both here at Wal-Mart. The waxworm is used at Reelfoot as much as crickets. They tip small Grizzly brand jigs with them and tightline them around the lilly pads and cypress knees.
wow i wished our wal-mart sold them but the do sell night crawlers and red wigglers and crickets but that is it and i thought about putting wax worms on some small jigs or even on some rooster tails and just on a hook and float near weed lines and on the deep side of the banks
