Do you love big bluegill?

Supermoon May 5th ---- Does it help bluegill fishing?

 May  5th  super moon for 2012.   Last years was March 19th 2011.  Does it help on bluegill fishing?

Ok, what is a "supermoon"???  Is that when the moon makes it's Closest Approach in it's orbit during a year?

Yes Allen. It's the closest orbital period of the moon, offering the brightest light possible. It doesn't matter which bright moon you're fishing in. It's all about the moonlight offering the predation a chance to gulp down at night, instead of morning time, where all the predators lurk above for a quick meal. However, the best feeding period is during the brightest time of the year, which is the the "super moon" period.

SO great for preds, but not so hot for gills?

Well, equally I would say. Aerial predators are all tucked in to their nests. Bats on the other hand are a different story. The predators would be the larger, visual hunters in/under the water, which includes gills, since bugs go wild during bright lit nights, for mating purposes. Use the green light near the surface sometime. You'll see swarms of bugs hovering near the green light, as well as fish below.

All full moons are great for fishing, especially for flyrodder's!!!!!! Large black flies, poppers etc.....

The fish are looking up so what ever moon it is called, definately GO WET A FLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Headed to Cheraw State Park in South Carolina tomorrow night for a moonlight paddle. Plan to find some big bluegill in a cypress swamp.
