Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Does any one out there use them? Do you plan fishing around them? Do you look at them after you have gone fishing just to see if it was a major or minor feeding time? http://www.solunarforecast.com/solunarforecast.aspx

I used to use them years ago, when I was young, single, and had the luxury to plan things around when to go fishing :-) And yes, I did find that they work pretty reliably. I tried to make sure to be on the water when there would be a major solunar period, and I generally got more bites during those times. Minor solunar periods didn't seem to help so much, and of course, even a major can be counteracted or minimized by weather.

Now that I'm not young, not single, and don't have the luxury to plan my life around when to go fishing, I just get out and fish any time I can and don't worry much about solunar periods :)

Cheers,

Jonathan
Moon cycles and their effects on fishing can be huge when all other factors are optimum....ice cold rain and heavy winds, or any other "less than favorable" conditions have an overiding effect which can make the positive effects of lunar phase un-measurable.....however, during stable , or ideal conditions...i.e...stable or dropping barometer, lunar phase periods are key......Southern MN and Northern WI will offer the best shot at a trophy Walleye during the first 3 days of Oct this year.....this same lunar phase phenom happens in my area during the 3 days prior to the full moon of Nov.......as per gills, the full moon cycle has been said by many to be non productive. Many fish species spawn by the full moon cycle and optimum conditions....this did not happen in many places in the U.S. this year. An unseasonably cold spring forced fish off the beds all across the country. This consequently resulted in a late, or second spawn a month later.

When it comes to game fish like Musky, Walleye, Bass, and Pike, I keep a sharp eye on the lunar phase....when it comes to Bluegills, Crappie, and Perch, I just grab the rods and go!
