Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

http://www.finefishing.com/1freshfish/aaspecies/panfish/light.htm

Please read this article and then tell me if any of you have tried this technique.

I would have like for the author of the article to post a picture of the float and the hook and maggots.

Cool article.....

I have read this article several times and have tried this style but not quite as lite as match fisherman actually go. Mick Thill is one of the best fisherman ever and has the championships to prove it, he even has won ice fishing tournaments. About 25 or so years ago when he came back to the states he introduced his floats and european style fishing and started an American team. I really wanted to try out for the team but with 3 young kids wasn't able to but, Johnny Wilkins who is a member on here did. There is another member John Cachel who also fished with Mick Thill.  There are many places on the internet to read about his floats and how to set them up for the best results. Also remember not all floats with the Thill name are  the floats that he designed or that he would use because of some deals he made long ago.

We have 100-200 strip pits[55 miles away] that are deep with clear water and I am always on the look out for new techniques to me to catch these big gills.

I fish using both floats and flies on pole. When you can, Google Drennan Carbo Ready Rigs. I think that's what you are looking for as a pre rigged set up. Cost is about $5.00 per rig excluding shipping. I don't use maggots, I use bread or micro plastics  for this method. Works great for cold water bites. This is my go to set up in March and early April.

Thanks for the tip. I will check out the ready rigs. I have not seen anyone use maggots in this area. My fishing buddies and I outfish these other fellows on a daily basis using crickets or red worms or bee moth or Popeye jigs.

Homer Circle died last year at the age of 97. A true fishing legend. I started reading his articles as a kid of 8 or nine yrs old.

A half-pound test line, I never even knew it existed. Wow! I've never tried, but it sure sounds like a winner.
