Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I'm looking for a couple of long rods, 10-12 footers. Preferably 2 piece rods, not 3. Mainly for dipping and cork fishing. They need to have the power to rip pounders out of weeds, but have a soft tip. I had a Cabelas match rod that was great, but it weighed a ton. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Trav

Dick introduced me to the telescopic pole, carbon fiber, 4 to 5 segments. I have a 12' and an 18'. Very flexible, very sensitive, and ultralight weight. I can use them as fixed or reel based rod. So far, it was able to handle a 5lbs bass without any problem. These rods are designed to go up to 15lbs, with the rod literally bend at 180°. I got my 18' on eBay. Just type:

"carbon telescopic fishing"

and you get yourself quite a few. There's a few that made in Taiwan, but so far, I like the one made in Japan. My 18' cost me $35, with shipping.

Do these rods have enough backbone to yank big bluegills out of bullrushes before they take charge, and wrap themselves up?

Yep. It was able to rip the 5lbs bass right out of the water from one side of the float tube to the other, between the high cattails and low laying foliage. So far, my rods are built like a brick. I also use them at the Salton Sea to haul out 1.5lbs+ tilapia right out from the rocky shores before they wedge themselves under the rocks. I love seeing them fly.

I'll give them a look. Also, someone messaged me about building a rod, well I lost the message and don't remember your name. If you could please respond again.

Could you be talking about Walt Foreman and/or David Eitutis? They're the two that build rods to my knowledge.

Look at the Bass Pro Shops Microlite series of rods.  I like mine.  I also suggest visiting your local tackle shops.  I have found some great buys.
