Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

So who's up for planning a day trip to NC for this 600.00 p/p BBG all day guaranteed to catch HAWGS extravaganza??  I would like to save my money and go if anyone else would like to check into it.  I would love to take my son!  Would next spring be best?

Hope it works out for you Lori. That would be the ElPremmo of bluegill fishing and I know there have been a number of BBG members who have made the plunge and addicted for life. Nice goal and good luck to you.

YOU ARE IN THE CORRECT STATE FOR BIG GILLS AND HOW ABOUT HOOKING UP WITH THE MASTER SIR JEFFREY !!!!!!!!!! JUST tie your boat on behind his and he can't loose ya then and he will show ya big gills and save the money from the Kingfisher trip and go fishing on lots of trips!!!!!!! If there is anyone who knows more about N. C. fishing I don't know who it would be. You are the luckiest gal in the world to be out there in the land of giants kiddo.......

Richmond Mill is the Mecca for those who pursue the giants.Where else can one go to have a legitimate chance at a 2.5 - 3lb. Bluegill?

I know of one other place where one can go to have a legitimate chance at a 2.5-3 lb. bluegill - a handful of ponds in middle Tennessee managed by yours truly.  Two summers ago the owner of one of these ponds caught a bluegill that he measured by his hand at 14", and considering he said it was "very thick," that would be easily three pounds or better.  Then there's this fish that was caught a week ago from a different pond by a guide client from Iowa, estimated at 1-10 or 1-12 by our own Jim Gronaw:

Or this one that came from a different pond three weeks ago:

Lori, I charge a lot less than Richmond Mill - $300 per day for two people.  The bluegill average over a pound each in my best pond.  Keep me in mind.

What city are you in Walt and is spring the best time of year?  I have kin in Bristol......

I'm in Columbia, a few hours west of Bristol (Tennessee is narrow north-south, but stretches a long way from Bristol to Memphis).  The best time of year is actually right now - spring is unpredictable due to weather, but from now to the end of July is always good.  I had my best trip of the year last year in June, and two guys from Texas (Federico is a member on here) came and fished with me the last week of July last year and wore out the big bluegill - dozens over a pound, and several in the 20-24 ounce range.

Columbia is forty miles directly south of Nashville.  There are several good chain hotels within four miles of the ponds, including a Holiday Inn Express about four miles away, and a Days Inn that's only two miles away.

Oh, and I forgot one thing - a 1 lb. 12 oz. hybrid bluegill came out of one of my ponds in May of last year, and last October I caught a 1 lb. 15 oz. hybrid - one ounce short of two pounds.  They were both released so they should be still in there (and bigger now).
